The Recipe for a High Performing Team

Every high-performing company has its own recipe for success. For us, it’s not about rigid org charts, perfect résumés, or filling roles fast. It’s about finding — and keeping — the right people. The “right” person isn’t always the most experienced. It’s the one whose values align with ours: integrity, passion, curiosity, and care. We look for people who want to be part of something bigger than a paycheck — people who show up because they care about the work, the team, and the result.

Hiring for Heart, Not Just a Job Description

We’ve learned over time that not everyone is the right fit for our culture — and that’s okay. High performance takes energy, humility, and a desire to grow. We hire for heart and potential, not just technical skill. You can teach a job, but you can’t teach authenticity, enthusiasm, or drive.

One of my favorite examples is our Marketing Manager. He’s actually the brother of my neighbor. He wanted to move to the area and thought he might like to be a project manager. He didn’t have the experience for that role, but I agreed to interview him as a favor. Within minutes, I could feel his energy and passion — he belonged here.

He started with a learning curve on marketing skills, but he had the heart and cultural fit nailed from day one. Today, he’s thriving as our Marketing Manager, bringing creativity, positivity, and connection to everything he touches. He’s proof that passion and alignment can outshine experience every time.

Titles Don’t Define Impact

Jonesy; IT Helpdesk and anything else

Another great example is our so-called Systems Administrator — a title that barely scratches the surface of what he does. When our developer left for another opportunity, I knew we needed to reinforce our IT team. But when I met him, I knew instantly that he was more than an IT guy — he was someone who understood people.

He’s one of those rare “unicorns” who can fix your computer without making you feel ignorant. But that’s just the start. He’s now an indispensable part of our marketing team and has become a true ambassador of our culture. Yes, he handles IT — but he also builds trust, collaboration, and connection across the company.

Everyone Leads Here

That’s what makes a high-performing team: people who step up, regardless of role. At any given event, you might see a senior project manager or video engineer on their hands and knees fixing carpet that technically isn’t even our responsibility. That’s not unusual here — it’s who we are.

When someone sees a job that needs to be done, they do it. No hesitation. No ego. Just teamwork.

We Expect a Lot, But We Give a Lot

We care deeply — about our work, our company, and each other. That care shows up in the pride we take in every project. My motto has always been: We are not OK AV. We don’t do “good enough.” Whether it’s our newest QC technician, our receptionist, or our most senior engineer, we hold everyone to the same standard. Because when people care, the results take care of themselves.

The Magic of the Right Mix

When you bring together the right mix of people — passionate, purpose-driven, and aligned — something special happens. Teams start to manage themselves. Collaboration feels natural. Problems get solved before they even surface. That’s when the magic happens — when leadership becomes less about control and more about creating the environment, providing support, and letting people shine.

The Power of a Pure and Consistent Brand

High-performing teams don’t just deliver great results — they become the brand. A pure and consistent brand doesn’t start with a logo or a tagline; it starts with the people. Every interaction, every decision, and every project reflects who we are at our core.

When your team lives the same values — integrity, passion, curiosity, and care — consistency happens naturally. It shows up in how we communicate, how we treat clients, and how we show up for one another. That’s what builds trust — not just with customers, but inside the team itself.

A brand isn’t a marketing exercise; it’s a living thing. It’s the collective heartbeat of the people who believe in the mission and show up every day to make it real. When everyone moves in the same direction, the brand feels effortless, authentic, and unmistakably ours.

The Real Payoff

And the real payoff? It’s a place people love to work. It’s not just a job — it’s their passion. It’s their family. It’s who we are.
