My Road To The Show is an Alford Media Series where you will meet an Alford Employee and learn about their Journey to the SHOW! This month, you will learn about Keith Anderson. Keith started as a projectionist with Alford in 2010 and has since transitioned into his current position as a video engineer.
I got the opportunity to sit down with Keith and ask him about his path to The Show.
Danielle
What led you into the media industry?
Keith
I started as a musician, which was a great hobby, but I really needed a job. Because of music, I began to learn more about audio production. I had a friend that I worked for at a recording studio who told me about Alford Media, and in 2009, I reached out to him.
Danielle
What was your first role at Alford?
Keith
In 2010, I worked as a freelancer in the audio department for Alford. I was working on the same show as my friend, who was in the video department at the time. As I was making my way through, I was stopped and asked where I was supposed to be. Before I could answer, my friend said I was with him in the video department. From there, I learned everything I could about videography.
Danielle
Over the course of your time at Alford, what has been your biggest personal accomplishment?
Keith
I can tell you my favorite show moment. There is a lot of anxiety that comes from producing large shows. There’s a lot of prep work, multiple load-in days, setup, and more. But when the client comes in and sees everything that we’ve done and tells us that “everything looks great,” it feels like all that stress on my heart goes away. It’s a magical feeling.
Danielle
You have worked many different roles at Alford. Do you have a favorite?
Keith
I really enjoyed being a projectionist, but I also immensely enjoy my current role as an engineer. I can tell you that I never want to be a COVID engineer again!
Danielle
How necessary is getting a media/film degree at this point in the industry?
Keith
It is not necessary at all, but if you decide to pursue something else, you have more opportunities than someone who doesn’t. My thought process has always been to find what you love to do and then find a way to make money off it.
Danielle
What is the biggest piece of advice you can give a young person like me who is starting out in this industry?
Keith
Don’t stop, and don’t let anyone tell you no. You will deal with a lot of complacency from those around you. Ensure you are always eager to learn, work hard, and stay humble. And be nice!
